Sacramento Takes On Comic Con
Comic Con; a nerdy dreamland for gamers, comic collectors, film connoisseurs, and fans of all variety, became a reality for Sacramento. Hosted by Wizard World Conventions, Comic Con, most notoriously hosted in San Diego, is a renowned event, that has finally graced the Sacramento Convention Center. Selling out two of the three days, this past weekend, convention attendance was directly related to the many celebrity guests including, Stan Lee (founder, Marvel Comics), Chris Hemsworth (Actor, Thor), Norman Reedus (Actor, The Walking Dead), William Shatner (Actor, Star Trek), and actors that have starred in other such works as Army of Darkness, The Karate Kid, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Starring alongside the numerous celebrities, a monstrous Vendor Hall and Artist Alley filled the enormous space, leaving no toy, comic, tee shirt, sketch, or knick knack out of reach of those in the interest of taking home a one-of-a-kind souvenir from the event.
I, in all my nerdy excitement, flocked to the Convention Center to be part of Sacramento’s first major Comic Convention. I witnessed the phenomenal craftsmanship of local fans, and famous cosplayers. From the award winning, MechaGodzilla (Made only of cardboard and duct tape!) to the simplicity of a small child dressed as his favorite Doctor, the convention was a converging point for creativity, and admiration. In the Artist’s Alley, not one single subculture was left unrepresented. By the end of the show I wanted for nothing. There was something for everyone, and you could sense the sigh of relief throughout the city on Sunday night as the event came to a close and Wizard World left us with a promise, to return to Sacramento with an even grander show in the Summer of 2015.
